Zini Contemporary Gelateria is an old dream coming true.

Growing up in Bologna, Italy, the capital of artisanal gelato,
our founder Matteo Zini has been inspired to share his genuine passion for gelato from a young age.


It took him tasting countless scoops of authentic Italian gelati, an economics degree, studying at a renowned gelato school “GelAteneo”, and backpacking in Australia to become an entrepreneur.

But even after co-founding his first gelato shop in Bologna in 2013, he never forgot his time in Australia and how much he ached to share the love for the Bolognese famous gelato here.

So, following his dream, chef Zini opened his first “La Macelleria Gelateria” shop in Brisbane in 2014 with two friends. Today, it has four different locations and a reputation as one of the best gelato parlours in Australia.

Chef Matteo’s passion for technological innovation in the gelato industry propelled his international gelato consultancy business. After over seven years of consulting and teaching the art of gelato-making in Southeast Asia, it was time for a new challenge, and that was when the “Zini Contemporary Gelateria” concept started to bloom.

Sydney was the chosen city for our first shop for its international taste and demand for innovative brands. No location would match our concept better than the brand-new Quay Quarter Precinct located at Circular Quay. We are proud to be an exciting addition to the neighbourhood, bound with its creative, lively spirit community.

Here, we proudly craft quality gelato made with the iconic Italian vertical Cattabriga machine.
